Excerpt from Forest Insect and Disease Conditions in Alaska Ground and aerial surveys detected significant blotch miner damage on hectares of quaking aspen near Fairbanks. Before last summer, damage caused by this miner was practically nonexistent. It was not until 1977 that the causal agent was identified as L. Ontario. Likewise, a related but unidentified species of Lithocol/etis caused considerable mining on alder in and around Fairbanks.
