"This family history has been limited to one direct line of the Bishop family descending from Rev. John Bishop [d. 1694] of Stamford, Connecticut. The history has been divided into three sections. The first, "Reverend John Bishop, Immigrant Ancestor," describes the Bishop family in Stamford prior to the American Revolution and explores the possible origins of the Bishop family in England. "The Bishops of Mount Lebanon" is an account of the Bishops' involvement with the Shaker Church in New Lebanon, New York. The last section, "Descendants of Asa Bishop," contains biographical sketches, incorporating letters and photos of the Bishop family in Holley, New York. Current information about the family is also found in this section."--Introd.
