"This text is a supplement to Dominican Liturgy Publications' recently issued Propers of the Office for the Order of Preachers (2018). Friars using that volume have asked whether it is possible to have a companion volume with the prayers and short biographies of the Dominican blesseds not on the general calendar to the Order. Normally, these blesseds are liturgically celebrated with the rank of optional memorial only in the province where they worked or died. If their shrine is located in a Dominican priory, their day has, however, the rank of obligatory memorial in that community. It is possible, of course, to celebrate these blesseds outside of their provinces, if there is spiritual or pastoral reasons, again with the rank of optional memorial. The short biographies here presented are mostly giving in the translations found in the "Orange Book," that is, the Supplement to the Liturgy of the Hours for the Order of Preachers (Chicago: Dominican Liturgy Commission, 1991). For Dominicans beatified or canonized after 1991, however, translations of their short biographies were made, or, if necessary, composed for this publication. Their prayers are those prepared by the Dominican Liturgical Commission in Rome as part of the new translation of Dominican propers for the Roman Missal circulated among the provinces in 2012. These collects are also found in the Missal for the Order of Preachers (Oakland: Dominican Liturgy Publications, 2017). I pray that this publication will increase knowledge of and devotion to these less-well-known holy brothers and sisters of our Order. Fr. Augustine Thompson, O.P., St. Albert the Great Priory, June 12, 2018."--
